This weekend the Game Development Club will be participating in Ludum Dare 31! We invite everyone to join us as we create a game in just 72 hours. We need programmers, designers, writers, musicians, testers, and just plain creative people to help us win Ludum Dare. So no matter what your skills are, we need your help!

Ludum Dare is a global game jam competition that has participants from all over the world. A theme is announced at the beginning of the competition and all games must somehow fit into this theme. GDC will be developing a single game to submit for judging. For more information on Ludum Dare see http://ludumdare.com/compo/.

As you might imagine, game jams can be quite hectic. Below is a breakdown of what will be happening this weekend.

Weekly meeting: Wednesday 12/3, 7pm, Nichols 126
Here we will decide what tools we plan to use for the game. This way we can be sure to have them installed on what ever computers we decided to use for the competition over the weekend.

Ludum Dare Starts: Friday 12/5, 8pm
Ludum dare will start on Friday at 8 pm. Everyone is encouraged to at least begin brainstorming ideas for game mechanics and assets once the theme is announced. Keep in mind we only 72 hours total to create this game!

GDC Kickoff: Saturday 12/6, 11am – 1pm, Nichols 122
We will be hosting our own kickoff. At this meeting we will decide on our core game mechanic as well as make sure everyone is on the same page as far as what game we will be developing. Once this is done we will begin development. Everyone is free to work in Nichols 126 or 122 over the weekend, but can also work else where if that is more convenient.

Wrap-up: Monday 12/8, 6pm – 8pm, Nichols 122
Submissions are due at 8pm so we will be using this time to finish strong. Once the finishing touches are put into the game we will submit it and celebrate the weekend of hard work.
